HOME COMING OF THE WARRIOR.

Brunswick Ironworks have been working with an A level Design Technology student from Ysgol Friars Bangor, Ben Smith was commissioned by the company to design and build a display case. The display case is for the artefacts from the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior which DJ Williams the founder of the company made in 1920.

The display case is constructed from mild steel and highlights the skills of the art metal worker of the twenty first century. The student constructed the display case under the supervision of Meurig Williams, which enabled Ben to learn some of the skills of an art metal worker.

The picture below show the completed display case.
This picture shows the hand made hinges and handle of the display case.

Handle on display was made by Ben Smith as the original is on loan to the Imperial War Museum London.

The artefacts are currently on display at the Imperial War Museum London as part of the exhibition commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the end of the First World War. The artefacts will be coming home to Caernarfon in October, and will be on display in the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum in Caernarfon Castle. This will be the first time that the artefacts have been on public display in Caernarfon and the company is very grateful to the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum for making this possible.

These hand rails have been traditionally forged by hand for Caernarfon Castle .

Safety rails for the stairs leading down into the Well Tower.
Safety rails for the top walk above the Granary Tower.

The Brunswick Ironworks are currently involved in the extension of the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. This is a very exciting project and the completed railway will link with the Ffestiniog Railway in Porthmadog, creating a line which will enable visitors to travel over 25 miles behind a steam train.

The Brunswick Ironworks have restored three of the existing bridges on the route and have gained the contract to build four new bridges to replace those that were lost. This is a very prestigious contract for the Company and it established them as a Company with a specialist area of expertise. The building and restoration of railway bridges for heritage railways.
